President’s Gift Fund

Each year we honor our outgoing president with a monetary gift from the NALS states, chapters, and members. This year’s gift will be awarded to Helene Wood, PP, PLS-SC, TSC-RE at the 2013 NALS Professional Development and Education Conference this coming March. The NALS Board of Directors fund most aspects of the work they do for NALS, including travel to NALS board meetings. Online Study Group Begins

The NALS Online Study Group kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday, January 8, with a session over written communications and will wrap up on February 27 with a general session over test taking tips. To assist those preparing for their exams, NALS will hold a series of WebEd sessions with coverage over all parts of the exam, as well as exam specific reviews for the ALS, PLS, and the Professional Paralegal (PP). All sessions will begin at 8:00 p.m. CST and pre registration is required. Here is the OLSG lineup:


January 8, 2013 – Written Communications (ALS, PLS, and PP)

January 15, 2013 – Office Procedures and Technology (ALS and PLS)

January 22, 2013 – Ethics, Human Relations, and Judgment Skills (ALS, PLS, and PP)

Revisions to Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code Are Coming:  Are You Ready?

A clear understanding of Revised Article 9 (RA9) is critical for successfully navigating the nuances of the Uniform Commercial Code. Article 9 is being revised again!  An important change is the definition of DEBTOR name.  Failure to get it right could risk your perfection. Also coming are new forms.  This class will focus on the new amendments, including the effect on your filing and searching.

NALS Foundation Grant Recipients
The NALS Foundation would like to congratulate the most recent grant recipients! Receiving grants from the December 1 grant period were:
  • Virginia Beach Legal Staff Association (VA) to assist in a day in court program to be held in February 2013; and
  • Black Hills Legal Professionals Association (SD) to assist in a keynote speaker for the Region 5 conference to be held this summer.

If your chapter needs assistance with a certification, education, or leadership program, don’t forget to apply for a NALS Foundation grant. The next grant deadline is March 1, 2013.
