It has only been a little over two months since the NALS Grassroots Level Think Tank (“GLTT”) met for the first time in Tulsa, and the Board of Directors is still talking about it. While many of you were attending your annual meetings, the NALS Board met in April to continue to elaborate upon the important topics shared during the GLTT meeting: time, cost, value, and identity.
Time is precious and there are many things in our lives competing for our time—work, family, volunteering, vacationing, social media, educational demands, etc. NALS must be respectful of time commitments and constraints upon the lives of legal professionals. Costs of products, services, meetings, and conferences must be examined to deliver a return on investment of time and cost, which will deliver an appreciated value that we can use in our busy lives and will be considered a benefit to us in our legal careers. And finally, without widespread understanding or recognition in the legal community, there is confusion about the identity and purpose of NALS. To address these important issues, the Board is serious about making NALS the place people want to spend their precious time and money. NALS wants YOU to benefit from the valuable certifications and educational opportunities and network with like-minded people in this great association for legal professionals.
The Board is discussing many different options for the future of NALS, and with the new NALS website, we will be able to provide additional value for all members. We are reviewing methods for making online practice tests and exams available, expanding our career center to assist members and employers, creating a buyers’ guide, and offering valuable mentoring opportunities. We are also examining partnerships to offer online platforms for CLE and specialty legal education, the location and frequency of national conferences, and the structure in which education is presented online and at national conferences. NALS’ focus and purpose is to provide certification, education, and networking for legal professionals in a vibrant and valuable manner, which will strengthen the legal community and continue to grow NALS in the future.
The Board of Directors heard the membership at the GLTT. We wish to continue to hear from you and encourage you to complete a survey concerning conference needs and desires, which will be available in the coming months in the NALS docket. Please feel free to contact the NALS Board of Directors at email@example.com with any concerns, questions, or comments. Thank you for your dedication to NALS!
