A call for nominations for 2009-10 Officers and Directors
of NALS is issued to all members for the following:
President-Elect
Secretary/Treasurer
Certification Director
Education Director
Marketing Director
Membership Director
All Regional Directors
You may make nominations for any of the above positions, but
it is not necessary for you to nominate someone for each position.
The qualifications and duties for each office are listed below.
Nominations must be postmarked or faxed to the NALS Resource
Center by August 1, 2008. Ballots will be mailed to all members
in September 2008.
President-Elect & Secretary/Treasurer Qualifications:
(1) Be a member in good standing, both at the time of nomination
and at the time of election.
(2) Have been a member of NALS for a period of at least three
years with no lapse in membership longer than ninety days.
(3) Have been engaged in work of a legal nature for at least
three years immediately prior to nomination.
A candidate for President-Elect must have at least two years
of service on the NALS board of directors in any position other
than president or president-elect within the past four years
and must have at least one year of service on the strategic planning
committee within the past two years. A candidate for secretary/treasurer
must have at least one year of service on the NALS board of directors
within the past four years.
President-Elect Duties: Shall assume the duties
of president in the absence of the president; responsible for
matters of violation of the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility;
shall perform such other duties as are assigned by the president
or by the board of directors.
Secretary/Treasurer Duties: Shall keep the
minutes of all meetings; give all required notices; be custodian
of the association records; oversee the financial affairs of
this association; perform such other duties as are assigned by
the president or by the board of directors.
Functional and Regional Director Qualifications:
(1) Be a member in good standing, both at the time of nomination
and at the time of election.
(2) Have been a member of NALS for a period of at least three
years with no lapse in membership longer than ninety days.
(3) Have been engaged in work of a legal nature for at least
three years immediately prior to nomination.
(4) Have completed three years of leadership service in this
association within the last seven years, one year of which must
have been as a chapter or state president or served as a national
committee chairman. A candidate seeking any position of functional
director working directly with certification must already be
a certified PP or, if the candidate does not qualify to take
the certified PP exam, the candidate must be a certified PLS.
Functional Director Duties. Shall serve in
a special capacity based on the association’s strategic planning
directions: education, membership, marketing, and certification,
shall perform any other special assignments from the president,
executive committee, or board of directors.
Regional Director Duties. Shall serve as liaison
between NALS and members within a geographical location/region,
communicating through appropriate state and chapter leaders;
shall serve as coordinator of all regional education programs
and other activities within the region; shall perform any other
special assignments from the president, executive committee,
or board of directors.
