In 75 words or less, how would you answer a potential member’s question if they asked “with cost of gas being so unbearably high, and the economy struggling, how should I present to my employer the possibility of paying my dues in NALS?”

To remain on the cutting edge of industry trends, professional people belong to professional associations.  NALS provides the education and professional development to nurture professionalism in legal support staff.

Employers who invest in staff are rewarded with loyalty.  Since training new staff is cost prohibitive, payment of dues is a cost-effective investment.  Membership in NALS will result in professional staff able to ethically run an attorney’s practice, allowing an attorney to focus on practicing law.

The benefits of your membership in NALS is ever-changing.  What drew you to join NALS is not always the reason that you renew your membership.  We continue to stress networking as one of those intangible benefits of NALS.  In 350 words or less, describe how your membership in NALS has changed throughout your years of membership. Why is your membership important to you, including how networking is linked to membership recruitment and retention.

I was not a member when I sat for the PLS exam, but joined shortly thereafter because of the professionalism exhibited by the exam administrator.  I immediately knew that I wanted to emulate that professionalism, that quiet confidence that is exhibited in NALS leaders at all levels.  Then, as I sought continuing legal education, relationships with other chapter and state members were formed.  Soon meeting attendance was important not only for education and recertification, but also for networking with my colleagues.  I believe that it is in the forming of these relationships that members feel a sense of belonging which translates into member retention.

Through networking with NALS members, we have the ability to quickly set up depositions, locate process servers anywhere in the nation, connect to members when relocating or moving into different practice areas, or help members in times of disasters.  No price tag can be placed upon the networking opportunities available through NALS membership - a prime reason for joining and remaining with NALS.

Advancements in technology have made it possible to link members through the NALS Community, Inside NALS, Facebook, and LinkedIn, propelling NALS into the future as members network day or night.  It is through technology that NALS will entice Generation Y to value membership in NALS.

Because of my membership in NALS, I have been in the company of some of the most impressive professional individuals I have encountered in my career who provide me with perspective about my professional career and leadership in NALS.  In addition, NALS’ education, training, and networking have enabled me to be considered, by my supervisor, as a knowledgeable resource on emerging trends in the profession, as well as being respected by my attorneys and within my firm.

NALS provides many opportunities for its members.  Individuals join NALS for many reasons, certification, education, and training, but networking is an incentive for members to forever remain part of NALS.

Endorsements

“The ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people (members).”  -- This famous quote was spoken by Woodrow Wilson and clearly states my sentiments of Patricia Infanti, Certified PP, PLS – 2009-2010 Candidate for NALS President-Elect.  Patti will be a NALS President by the members, for the members and through the members.  She is visionary, insightful, and hard-working, just to name a small few of her endearing qualities.  It is truly my pleasure to endorse Patricia Infanti, Certified PP, PLS for the position of the 2009-2010 NALS President-Elect.
Mary E. Burns, Certified PP, PLS, NALS 2004-5 Past President

Patti is friendly and caring and will be a member's president.  She is truly passionate about seeing our members maximize their potential to meet their personal and professional goals through networking, education and certification.  No matter what Patti does, she goes far beyond what is expected of her.  She will serve this association well, and I am excited about the future of NALS with Patti Infanti, PP, PLS as our 40th NALS president!
Cathy Hankins, PP, PLS, NALS 2006-7 President

Patti Infanti is an exceptional NALS member and is very qualified to serve as the next NALS President-Elect. She maximizes her potential as a legal professional and she makes a difference!  She adheres to the NALS mission by sharing her knowledge so that NALS members can enhance their competencies and contributions to the legal profession.  Patti’s leadership service at the local, state, and national levels has given her the strategic tools she needs to serve as the President-Elect and her continued service on the NALS Board is vital to fulfilling NALS’ vision of “being the trendsetter for providing information and education through its worldwide partnership with all related professional associations.”  Patti knows what core competencies are required of the legal professional and she strategically reviews NALS programs to develop new and enhance continuing programs for the legal professional.  Patti has stated that “Networking with NALS colleagues from around the country is priceless!”  Patti’s leadership abilities are “priceless” to NALS.  I completely support Patti as the next NALS President-Elect, she is ready and so is NALS.
September D. Holmblad, PP, PLS, NALS Past President.

Patti Infanti has always been the professional that we look for in our NALS officers.  From the first time I met her at a Region 2 meeting and attended a CLE that she presented, I have never seen her in any other light than that of a professional -- from her attire, to the way she carries herself, to her speech and mannerisms.  And in speaking with fellow members, her attitude is that of colleague to colleague.  In my opinion, she is what NALS members are looking for in their officers and I believe she will do an excellent job, and of course, a very professional one!
Cindy Lane Hughes, PP, PLS, Region 2 Director, 07-08

When I first met Patti Infanti, I knew she was destined for great things.  She is very perceptive, very dedicated, very detail oriented, and, at this point in time, she is very, very much the right person to be the next NALS President Elect and then move into the presidency.  She has worked hard toward this goal, and has not taken any shortcuts, but rather has served in many positions and given 110 percent in each and every one.  Patti has a clear head on her shoulders, her feet are firmly planted on the ground, and she will give, at the very least, that 110 percent to her next position.  I whole heartedly support Patti Infanti, PP, PLS, for the office of President Elect of NALS.
Susan S. Turner, PLS, NALS 2003-2004 President
