NALS Online Surveys As expected, the comments we received were very diverse on all topics. Our first survey asked for suggestions from our members that would get them to attend NALS conferences. Items of importance to our members include good speakers on relevant educational topics, more free time to explore the area during the conference weekend, and networking opportunities the conferences provide. As for regional conferences, our members would prefer to have them on the weekends. Our members like to have fun and we continue to incorporate more networking opportunities and fun events at NALS conferences. We asked our members about one of the best benefits NALS offers to its members - the Online Learning Center (“OLC”). Those members who attend CLE in the OLC find it very worthwhile and know it’s an easy way to get CLE for FREE, as well as a place to meet new NALS friends. The sessions offered in the Online Learning Center are getting rave reviews, but our members would like to have more sessions offered and offered at different times, like Saturday mornings, Sunday afternoons, and during lunch hours. Of course, with our members spread across six time zones, this is a challenge. Our members would also like to have more advanced sessions at conferences and in the Online Learning Center. Our second scan focused on generational issues. It’s no surprise that the majority of NALS members are baby boomers and gen x-ers. Our members enjoy their NALS leadership service on all three levels and members are more than willing to volunteer - they just want to be asked. Those members who cannot attend conferences, or those who have to pick one session over another would like to be able to “attend” the sessions via video conference or via webcast. The final scan posed questions to assist NALS in presenting a program at the Association of Legal Administrators’ conference on “Retooling the Senior Secretary.”
