All Aboard the NALS Train!
Legal staff around the country need to hop on board the NALS train. Why
you ask? The reasons are numerous, but I’ll pinpoint a few. Legal
education in all areas of law, certification from the novice to experienced,
and last but not least, networking. Wherever you are, there’s
a part of NALS for you. NALS is a tri-level association; therefore,
wherever you go, whatever area of law you’re in, a part of NALS can
be with you. There are destinations nationally, state-wide, and
locally. As members can attest, the rails of the NALS train run
far and wide -- spanning the United States in fact.

Arizona LDPs - Who
and What are They? Why are They Here?
As NALS members we are used to seeing PLS, PP, CLA, CP, and Esq. When
it comes to LDP (Legal Document Preparer), we really have no idea what
one is and what a person would have to do to become one. Here
is a brief overview.

NALS Award of Excellence
“The NALS Award of Excellence is the top honor a member can receive
from NALS. This award began in 1957 and was then called the Legal
Secretary of the Year. The name was changed in 1994 to better reflect

honored.”

We are all members composing a group called NALS. Each member
is a vital part of our membership. It is important to keep our
organization alive; to do so we must practice the act of retaining. The
following is an article written by Elizabeth G. Wells, PP, PLS, TSC.

Think Big
- Education and Certification
June 1st is almost here and with it comes the next NALS Foundation
grant deadline. We know your association is involved with NALS
THINK BIG. As the trustees considered the NALS Foundation strategic

foundation working hand in hand with NALS, we needed to focus grants
on Education and Certification. So bring us your THINK BIG education
and certification programs and we will provide financial assistance.

Being Proactive in Tough Times
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, . . .” The
infamous opening phrase from Charles Dickens Tale of Two Cities easily
comes to mind for certainly this is “the worst of times.” For
the first time we are seeing massive and continuing lay-offs by law
firms throughout the country, not just staff, but attorneys and partners
as well. This economic downturn may signal the end of the familiar
law firm structure. For certain, some things will never be the
same.

Reg-Cert Who?
Everyone knows what the Membership Committee or the Education Committee
does, but does anyone really know what the Regulation-Certification
Committee does? On behalf of the Reg-Cert Committee, as we
like to call ourselves, I would like to try to answer that question.

Look! Look! A Dinosaur!
I will freely admit to a number of character flaws. Although
I enjoy e-mail, because I am able to write fast enough to communicate
pretty thoroughly that way, the idea of reading e-mail out of a device
small enough to fit in my hand doesn’t sound appealing to me. I
like Wikkipedia because I can quickly track down key dates, the names
of the players, and a rough outline of what happened to whom and why,
but I just find it more enjoyable to explore a historical period through
a well developed piece of writing that took the author a number of
years to research and synthesize.
