And the Winner Is...
By NALS Foundation Trustee Marie Ringholz, PP, PLS

On Saturday, March 8, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, there was a drum roll … NALS Jett Awards – “Best of the Best” –  the Founders Award … Austin LSA, Inc.

Austin LSA is a large chapter, but their CLE One-Time Program is a winner for any size association. Its members decided it was time to “stretch the box.” While offering a six-week Advanced Legal Career Enhancement Seminar (a study group for NALS certification exams), they recognized an opportunity to expand the service they were providing to the legal community.

They had purchased the NALS Nuts & Bolts of Grammar & Written Communication Program Seminar to assist with their study group preparation. A needs assessment indicated other members were interested in brushing up their grammar and written communication skills.
The solution? A half-day seminar (4 hours) a week before the September certification exams!

The study group participants paid a discounted registration ($25). Other NALS members paid $35 and non-members were charged $50. Registration exceeded expectations! A new location accommodated all who registered.

And the winner is – let’s make that winners are! Although Austin LSA, Inc. was the  Founder’s Award recipient, every person who attended the seminar is a winner for enhancing her or his skills; the greater Austin legal community is a winner as these legal professionals perform at their law firms and interact with their clients; and NALS and the NALS Foundation are winners because they have this model program other associations can use.

Do you want to be a winner? Your association can host a “Nuts & Bolts” seminar.  Check the NALS Foundation website by May 1 to find a tool kit with all the details about planning the seminar. Click now on “Store” from www.nals.org. for information on purchasing the NALS Nuts & Bolts of Grammar & Written Communication Program Seminar. Apply for a grant from the NALS Foundation: the June 1 Grant Application will be limited to programs based on the Founders Award winning project.

AND – THE WINNERS ARE . . .
The NALS Foundation sends kudos to the members of all Chapters, States, and Regions who submitted entries for the Jett Award program. Other associations receiving Jett Awards in Tulsa included:

Keystone Award: NALS of Phoenix and San Antonio LSA
Cornerstore Award: Tri-County Association for Legal Support Professionals and CLSA - Chattanooga Legal Professionals (Tennessee).

Information on all the Jett Awards is available from www.nals.org/foundation.
