Marketing
Marketing and Membership seem to go hand in hand and a
great Marketing Tool is a Membership Drive.
Have a Membership Drive as one of your regular meetings. An
evening meeting would be nice to have either a cheese and
wine social or have cocktails and heavy hors d'oeuvres.
If you want to keep it strictly a social event summertime
is a perfect time to have your social poolside and have
a causal evening. You should have your president
or membership chair say a few words about the association
and the things that you do. Remember you are marketing
your association.
Make sure you have name badges so your guests can mingle
and get to know one another. Put their name and their
employer’s name on the badge, that way they can relate
to each other perhaps through working with each other’s
firms. Give everyone plenty of time to talk with
one another and ask questions of your members since they
might be interested in joining your association.
Be sure to display your application forms, some literature
about the association, perhaps some issues of @ Law and
your state and local newsletters. Another nice thing
to display, if you have one, is a brochure from your local
association, describing what you are about and the programs
and events in which you participate. If you have
won awards, display those to let your guests know about
your association’s accomplishments.
You might want to have a more structured evening and have
a speaker. You might try a motivational speaker that
would get your members and guests enthused about setting
goals and accomplishing them; or maybe try a woman Judge
who might speak on women’s issues in the law; or perhaps
even a panel of Judges who would be willing to have a question
and answer session and have your members and guests feel
free to ask any questions they might have; or this could
be done with Clerks from several different locals who could
answer your questions.
Try to have a fun evening for your guests, but make it informative
also, remember you are marketing your association and your
goal is to interest your guests in joining. You want
your guests to feel that they have come for a reason other
than having a glass of wine and some cheese!
