I am Thankful….
From the Membership Committee
As I was trying to think of a theme for an article for
this month’s Leading the Way, I thought what better time
of the year to reflect on the many benefits I receive as
a member of NALS.
We definitely have an advantage over our nonmember legal
community. We are personally acquainted with legal
personnel throughout the United States and if we have a
question about anything related to law in a different state,
we can contact someone we personally met at a NALS conference. What
a benefit to our law firms. What if you haven’t attended
a NALS conference (and I would ask you, why not – more
on this later) and don’t know who to contact? You
can send an e-mail or call the NALS Resource Center with
the topic and state and they will give you a contact person
in that area. You can also log onto the NALS web
site and go into the State and Chapter area. Many
of them have their own web sites with contact people listed
for the various states. For this I am thankful.
Now, why haven’t you attended a NALS function? Your
firm or company does not contribute towards the expense
of attending? Did you put together a request listing
all the advantages you would receive from attending, such
as education (list the education at the specific NALS event),
leadership traits, confidence and last but not least, the
networking that is valuable to every law firm or company? If
you are unable to attend a national conference, there are
region conferences specific to your state that offer education
as well. Also, some chapters and states have policies
in place that routinely send members to these conferences. You
may find it convenient to attend one of the sessions in
the On Line Learning Center. The schedule is on the
NALS web site. I am very thankful for the NALS web
site.
We are thankful for the staff working for us on a daily
basis at the NALS Resource Center. They are dedicated
to NALS and I am thankful for their friendship as well
as their knowledge on most every topic that comes up relating
to our association.
We are thankful for the professionalism that our association
affords us, not just the certifications but the leadership
training we receive as well.
We are thankful for the NALS Board of Directors, Committee
Chairs and Committee Members working for us on a regular
basis.
Most of all, we are thankful for our members…without you
we would not be successful. Each and every member is
a valuable part of this association. You may not be
able to attend a meeting or serve on a committee at this
time but circumstances change and who knows what your future
holds. You may be the 2010 NALS President!!
