NALS Foundation -- And The Winner Is...
Mary Lenhart, PP, PLS, NALS Foundation Trustee

2006 NALS Jett Awards – “Best of the Best” –  the Founders Award goes to Berrien-Cass Legal Support Professionals, a chapter with 12 members from Michigan.  The project fell under the categories of Court Observance and Membership.

Berrien-Cass held an evening dinner which celebrated the Chapter’s 50th anniversary, and recognized the area attorneys with 25+ years in the legal profession.  The guest speaker was a State Supreme Court Justice who was a real draw for attendance by the local judiciary and attorneys.

During the evening celebration, certificates were presented to the attorneys and judges who were admitted to the Bar 25+ years ago.  There were recognitions of the judiciary, a local past president of the  State Bar of Michigan, and local members who were past NALS of Michigan state presidents, past state Legal Professionals of the Year, past local presidents,  and members and former members in attendance.  The Chapter also presented an honorary membership to its non-member volunteer webmaster.

In celebration of its 50th Anniversary, Berrien-Cass used the event as a membership drive and had membership materials on display and available for the attendees.

In celebration of Court Observance during the event, information obtained from the NALS website was displayed along with the Court Observance Week Proclamation received from the Governor of Michigan.

With a membership of 12 and a committee of six, Berrien-Cass celebrated  the evening with 74 in attendance.

A representative of Berrien-Cass will be at the Professional Development Conference in Tulsa, March 8-10, 2007.  She will present a detailed accounting of the program, from planning to completion.  Make your plans to attend the Conference to see and hear first hand about the projects’ success.

The NALS Foundation sends kudos to the members of Berrien-Cass Legal Support Professionals and to all Chapters, States, and Regions who submitted entries in the 2006 Jett Award program. We welcome the opportunity to recognize the outstanding work of our fellow NALS members.

REMINDER . . . The June 1st Grant deadline will be for programs based on the Founders Award winning project.  Put your thinking caps on, it’s still time to plan a similar project and apply for a Grant.
