Fear of Public Speaking

In order to speak, it is necessary to BREATHE.

(3) important components of breathing are:
1.  posture
2.  air intake
3.  mouth position during repeat inhalation

- Is the fear of speaking in public hurting you personally and professionally?

Do you lose control over your body? Dry mouth? Quivering voice? Sweating? Forget to BREATHE?

-  When you present in public … start low – consciously start out with a slightly lower than normal voice, and remember to BREATHE.

Imagine that your audience is comprised of 5 year olds and you have to explain some difficult concept to them.  You must obviously go slowly so they can understand you.

Cut out some of your material so that you do not feel rushed to get it all in.  BREATHE!!

Correct breathing techniques is important in public speaking – learn the process to use the maximum lung capacity – upright posture is essential.

Make breathing as inaudible as possible – no one wants to be distracted by the breathing noises of the speaker.  The position of your mouth must be such that the air has room to pass through.  Your tongue and lips act as barriers to the air trying to enter the lungs.

When in a stressful speaking situation – most important thing to remember is to “breathe” correctly.

- good posture
- take in enough air at the beginning of your speech
- inhale while thinking of the relaxed syllable “OH”

Following this advice, will set a better pace for your speech, and will increase your physical comfort in front of your audience.

maximizing your potential!
