Leading the Way
All NALS members like to have fun and having fun at regional conferences is no exception.   One of the ways we have fun is at the Foundation Auction.  Each region has a different spin on how they hold their auction, but the end result is the same:  raising funds to benefit the NALS Foundation.  This year, the NALS Foundation has once again donated a beautiful ring to each of the eight regions.  However, there is no minimum goal to be met.  Instead, the Foundation will split all profits from the regional fund raisers with the NALS building fund.

Leading by Example
Since I retired a couple of years ago, I’ve found time to read the daily newspaper in the mornings over a second cup of tea. My favorite section is the Daily Horoscope and today’s seemed to be not only gratifying to my ego but particularly applicable to my agenda for the day: preparing this article. Though many of us have volunteered or been elected to serve as leaders in organizations like NALS, to fulfill specific obligations or tasks, all of us are de facto leaders because of our innate sense of responsibility.

Remember...Recertify!
Do you remember the day and how you felt when NALS notified you that you successfully passed your certification exam?  My “feeling happy” button was activated immediately and I still feel such pride when I remember how and why I accomplished this goal for myself.  When NALS sends your certificate in the mail it is your official recognition that guarantees you have met the qualifications and achieved a professional standard of certification.

Lighten Up!
I hear from legal professionals across the country that one of their main concerns is remaining of value in a changing environment where roles are being redefined almost daily.   What they used to do for their boss has changed; new skills are required, new methods of communication to utilize, new practice areas to learn as well as new rules, policies and procedures as firms merge, are absorbed, or when our attorneys strike out on their own.
