Darlene Howard holds many titles; mother, daughter, friend, coworker and champion! She diligently tries to accomplish all of her goals, but even when she is unsuccessful, Darlene still strongly believes in the Japanese proverb “Nanakorobi Ya Oki” which means, “fall down 7 times, stand up 8.” Darlene is from northern Virginia and works as a legal assistant in the City Attorney’s Office in Alexandria, VA. She has been a member of the legal community for nearly 9 years.
Shortly after joining NALS in 2013, Darlene started volunteering her time and assistance in any way she could. Darlene serves as Vice President of her local chapter (NVLSA). She is the Chairperson of the Legal Member of the Year Award, and serves as a member of the Finance Committee and the Nomination Committee at the state level (VALS). Darlene has served on the NALS Leadership Team at the national level through her volunteerism on the following committees/Task Forces: New Legal Professionals Task Force, Education Products Development Task Force, and the Grassroots-Level Think Tank. Darlene is also a member of the Local Government Paralegal Association.
Darlene earned her associate’s degree in business administration in 2011, and she is currently enrolled in classes to obtain her bachelor’s degree. In 2015, Darlene earned the Continuing Legal Education Award from NALS.
Darlene considers her greatest accomplishment as being a mommy to three pretty cool kids!
