This blog has been created as a place where all members, new or seasoned, can have their questions answered relatively quickly. We feel this would be a huge benefit to all of our members. We hope this will be a forum where our members can learn more about NALS such as how the tri-level system works, membership benefits you may not be aware of, how the election process works, how and why things change to keep NALS moving forward, and anything else about our association that you may wonder about.

Proposed Bylaw Amendments

Posted By Kathleen Amirante (Chute) PLS, Thursday, June 25, 2020
On June 10 NALS sent out the proposed bylaw amendments that were submitted to the Board by the Governance Task Force. I hope all members have had a chance to review the amendments the Board has approved and more importantly viewed the amendments to be voted on by the members. I have seen no questions posted by the membership, but wanted to let you know that I am available as chair of the Task Force to respond to any questions you might have. These are important issues that require member attention. I hope you will take the time to read them, discuss them with your fellow members, help make sure all members have seen the information, and are ready to vote July 25 when the ballots are sent out. Again, I am happy to respond to any questions. Kathleen Amirante, PLS Governance Task Force Chair

NALS Board and Membership Meeting

Posted By Kathleen Amirante (Chute) PLS, Saturday, November 16, 2019
I just attended the first ever NALS Board with Members Online Meeting and I want to thank Darlene, Nakia, Amylyn, and Laliese for an awesome event. I believe you have found a very realistic solution to move NALS forward into the future. The open meeting was a great forum for members to share their questions and concerns and the information you shared hopefully helped members understand the total commitment the board has made to finding the best solution for NALS. Change is hard, but without it we will not grow. You all have gone way above and beyond and I thank you.

Welcome to the new "Ask a NALS Past President" Blog

Welcome to the new “Ask a NALS Past President” blog.

For instance, in the recent survey sent out by the governance task force, a member suggested that the dues being sent to local chapters is not enough and maybe a larger portion of the overall dues payment should be sent to the local chapter.

The answer to this is simple: Each local chapter and state chapter sets its own dues amount and provides the information to NALS. When you receive your dues renewal form, this amount is included in your total dues. Then once you pay your dues, NALS forwards a rebate to your state and/or local chapter in the amount of the dues due for each.  Any increase to local or state dues would be an increase to your overall NALS dues and would be reflected in your dues statement.

Perhaps you have a question about how the board operates, what committees you might like to join, or even how you get appointed to serve on a committee. You may have a suggestion that you think might be beneficial but don’t know whom to send it to. This would be the place for you to get your answers.

If I don’t know the answer, I will contact our team of NALS past presidents for their response and send a response out to you as quickly as possible. If your question is something we cannot answer, we will bring it to the attention of the Board of Directors and either they will respond or we will get the information from the Board and provide it to you.
