As a way to promote #BetterTogether, each Board Member has a traveling gavel, a gavel shaped thumb drive assigned to him or her.  The Board Members encourage members and chapters who want to participate to take photos with the traveling gavel once they receive it. This could be by doing fun activities. Then, share the photos on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Social Link, etc.), using the hashtag #travelgavel.  We also ask that you store the  photos on the traveling gavel’s thumb drive.

It's easy to get involved. . .

  1. Send an email to the Board of Director's to notify NALS of your involvement at BOARD@NALS.org. You will then be assigned a board member who will reach out for your address and other details they may need.
  2. Once you receive your gavel, email the board member that you have received your gavel. Then, please create a folder and upload your chapter photos.
  3. Keep the gavel for a month then pass it to the next address. Your board member will provide the next chapter information for you to send it to.

What kind of pictures should my chapter upload?

Each state or local NALS chapter will take photos with the traveling gavel doing fun activities and share the photos on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Social Link, etc.), using the hashtag #travelgavel and tag the Board Member in the post.  The photos will also be stored on the traveling gavel thumb drive.

What's the goal and purpose of doing this?

NALS states and chapters do so much for their members on a local and state level each year! How far will each traveling gavel go before they meet up in Phoenix, Arizona at the 67th Annual Education and Networking Conference in September 2018?  The Board Members are in a race to see how many chapters his or her traveling gavel will make it to before meeting back up at the September 2018 Phoenix conference.

There is no limit regarding how many traveling gavels each state and local chapter can host.

Happy travels!
