NALS PLS/CLP Exam is Now Online!

Monday, July 16, 2018   (0 Comments)

After over a year and half of work and development between NALS Certification and Education Manager, Maria Easterly, and the NALS National Certifying Board, the Professional Legal Secretary (PLS)/Certified Legal Professional (CLP) exam is now online!
The PLS/CLP Exam is hosted online through a reputable online assessment provider, PSI Services LLC.
PSI Services LLC is one of the most extensive assessment providers in the world. They work in over 160 countries and deliver millions of exams and assessments annually. Every day, tens of thousands of candidates, irrespective of their language or location, use their trusted technology to complete their exams and be assessed or certified.
The PLS/CLP will join the Accredited Legal Professional (ALP) online exam on our current exam system provider. This system provides the following benefits to our members, legal support professionals, education partners, and students:

  • 24/7 Access and Convenience - No more waiting for an exam period to roll around! Once the examinee's application is approved, they can sit and take the exam.
  • Quicker Results Delivery - No more waiting for results to be released! Each examinee will be awarded their designation once respective parties verify the results.
  • Online Proctoring - No more need for organizing an exam proctor in your area or driving long distances for the exam! For a small additional fee, each examinee can take the exam online anytime, day or night. The $45 fee covers all four sections, totaling four hours. This fee goes directly to the PSI Services LLC.
  • Same Great Quality Exam - NALS National Certifying Board has 20+ years of statistical data related to our PLS/CLP exam. Analyzing the data allowed NALS National Certifying Board members to shorten the PLS/CLP exam, in the number of questions asked and time allotted per section, all while maintaining a high level of relevance and validity. They were able to accomplish this feat by creating questions which require an advanced, in-depth understanding of the legal industry to answer.

Here is the application process for the PLS/CLP online exam:

  1. Visit NALS.org/ExamsOnline to apply for the exam you would like to take.

  2. Once the NALS Certification/Education Manager receives your PLS/CLP exam application, she will review it and make sure you meet the necessary qualifications. The current provisions regarding first-time PLS/CLP examinees remain intact; you must sit for the entire exam on the same day [Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4]. There is an additional option to take two parts of the exam in one session and the other two parts in another but still would need to be in the same day. For the additional option, you will have to pay double the online proctoring fee. If you fail any part of the exam, you may register to retake said portion online. Also, similarly to our current practice, you need only register to sit for the failed sections of the exam.

  3. If the NALS Certification/Education Manager approves your application, you will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed to the online PLS/CLP exam. These instructions will include login information for the online exam portal and detailed instructions on how to access the online exam. This email will also include the number of days you have to sit for the exam. You may sit for the exam at any time in that window, day or night. Once you decide when to sit for the online exam, you will need:
    ·  a reliable internet connection;
    ·  a quiet room, free of distractions; and
    ·  a webcam and microphone, newer computers and laptops have these included.

  4. Once an examinee is finished taking their online exam, he/she will receive results immediately. Exam results will then be verified by the NALS Certification/Education Manager and NALS National Certifying Board upon receipt of same. Once confirmed, the examinees' NALS account will be updated, and a certificate will be awarded to the examinee.

NALS Board of Directors would like to say, 'Thank You!' to the following: NALS National Certifying Board for working tirelessly to review and create the online exams. NALS Certification/Education Manager, Maria Easterly, for her leadership and guidance with moving the first NALS exam online. Also, most importantly, the NALS Foundation for staying true to the core purpose of funding quality education projects. The NALS Foundation was able to fund this innovative project FULLY. Anyone who has donated to the NALS Foundation, we say a big thank you to each of you as well!
The NALS National Certifying Board and NALS Certification/Education Manager, Maria Easterly, are in the process of launching the online version of the Professional Paralegal (PP) exam soon. The PLS/CLP online exam joins the ALP online exam, release in early Spring 2018. There is also discussion of online Specialty Exams, as well!
