NALS Camp Grant
Share |

Are you interested in a new program that will excite your chapter members? The NALS Foundation wants to help you!

The NALS Foundation will be awarding five $500 "NALS Camp" Grants to the chapters with the most innovative "NALS Camp" ideas. All you have to do is submit a description of your innovative proposal for "NALS Camp", include a proposed agenda and budget, and submit it to the NALS Foundation using the form at the bottom of this page by February 19, 2016. The Trustees will review all applications and award these special grants at the NALS 2016 Professional Development & Education Conference in Tulsa.

NALS Camp is an idea developed by the NALS of Phoenix Past Presidents. The NALS of Phoenix Past Presidents wanted a way to take the knowledge they learned in Tulsa during the NALS Professional Development & Education Conference alongside with their own experiences, and share it with those in their local chapter and state. They wanted a fun and casual platform that would entice people to sign up and attend. The NALS of Phoenix Past Presidents held successful Camps two years in a row. Campers and counselors provided their impressions of NALS Camp in the following video.

NALS Camp Grant Guidelines

When preparing your grant application, here are some things to consider:

  • NALS Camp can be an education conference, with substantive legal topics; a certification study group; or a leadership conference. This can be a free event for your campers, or one that creates a profit for your chapter. The one requirement is that it must be summer camp themed. Some examples are:
  • Have it outside at a park or even at a summer camp location, or inside a conference room that is decorated like the outdoors. Have a camp fire at the end of the day.
  • Have summer camp type foods, such as hotdogs, hamburgers and/or s'mores.

  • Session titles that are summer camp or outdoor themed, i.e., Dealing With Poison Ivy (Difficult People), How to Keep Your Camp Running (Budgets), etc.

  • Be creative, innovative, and make it fun for those you want to attend. For example, come up with a unique NALS Camp song that fits your event.

The grant money you receive must be used solely for Camp purposes: marketing, supplies, location fees, food, etc. Make sure you include a proposed agenda, proposed budget, and as many details as possible so the Trustees reviewing the applications can see how innovative your ideas are.

If you have any questions about putting together a NALS Camp of your own, please send an email to foundation@nals.org. The NALS of Phoenix Past Presidents have agreed to share some of their materials with those interested.
