NALS Approved CLE - Vendor Program
Share |

In order for a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits provider to advertise that their seminar or webinar is "NALS Approved", and thus is pre-approved for CLE credit towards Accredited Legal Professional (ALP), Professional Paralegal (PP), or Professional Legal Secretary (PLS) credentialing, a vendor application must be submitted and receive approval by NALS.

The vendor program was established by NALS as a benefit to its members. In 1995, the vendor program was started to encourage proprietary education companies to apply for “pre-certification” of their seminars. It is a pre-approved process for providers of training and development so that the NALS members will always know—up front—that the training the NALS member is about to spend hard-earned money for will count. It also provides proprietary educational companies in the legal profession with an additional marketing tool and increased marketing segment.

By submitting the required documentation to NALS for approval prior to offering a session or course, the organization knows that its curriculum meets the requirements of NALS for the awarding of CLE credits or recertification points and the actual value of the session for the NALS members. An additional benefit to the organization is that individuals who are not NALS members will realize that the course or session has been pre-approved by a national entity.

Please note that NALS automatically accepts CLE credit issued by its state/local chapters. For all others not falling into this category, the process for getting a course or session approved by NALS is as follows:

  1. Submit a completed Vendor Application to NALS Education Department, using a separate form and additional application fee for each program to be approved. The application fee is $50 per seminar topic and it is valid for one year from the date the program begins. For NALS members, the fee is $10 per seminar topic.

  2. The application will be reviewed in conjunction with the guidelines established by NALS.

  3. If the application is approved, a digitally formatted copy of the NALS logo will be provided to the vendor to be used on its brochure or certificate. The vendor would only be allowed to use the logo for the specific seminar approved. If the application is not approved, the vendor will receive an explanation of the rejection.

Each seminar program must be at least sixty (60) minutes in length. Subjects must be relevant to the work of lawyers' assistants. Changing the name or content of a course constitutes a different course and requires a new approval. If a vendor will be providing several identical courses in several states, then it will be necessary to apply for a general state application, for example: (state) Paralegal Torts Review. This is acceptable, but to name a specific state indicates that the course is valid only in the one state and if offered in other states, a new approval needs to be sought.

Please Note: Submitting this form does not guarantee that your program or course will be approved for Continuing Legal Education by NALS. You must submit a separate application for each program. Feel free to duplicate as necessary.
