This presentation will discuss copyright infringement and how it particularly applies to the business enterprise. We will cover the basics of what copyright does and does not protect, the applicability of the fair use doctrine, and what businesses can do when copyright "enforcers" like ASCAP, BMI, SEASAC, CCC, and the like assert that a business is infringing copyright and needs to take a license. We will also address employee/contractor assertions of copyright ownership in works created by the employee, and steps businesses can take to keep employees and contractors from walking away with copyright ownership. Further, we will address what businesses can do to protect themselves from theft or unauthorized use of information posted on their own or others? websites.
