This session will be an introduction to the Affordable Care Act's health insurance reforms, individual mandate, premium tax subsidies, health insurance exchanges, and impact on Medicare, Medicaid, and health care systems. Attorney Nancy Stone completed a joint degree program in health law and public health, earning a Master of Public Health degree, as well as a Jurisprudence Doctorate. Licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1993, she has worked with health law and policy issues throughout her career as an attorney, including drafting and testifying on legislation in the Texas Legislature and advocating on health care issues in the U.S. Congress. ln 2004 she began a solo practice focusing on elder and disability law in which she navigates complex government assistance programs like Medicaid long-term care, Medicare and Social Security, and assists clients with estate planning, powers of attorney, advance directives, wills, trusts, and estate administration. Nancy Stone is also certified by the VA to assist veterans and their families with obtaining the Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension and other benefits. Nancy Stone has served as public policy chair, program committee chair, director, and president of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Texas Chapter, and was awarded its Outstanding Achievement Award for 2009. ln addition, Nancy Stone is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and a published writer on elder law and public health issues.
